The “Power of One” was a very emotional, powerful movie. The film was full of history and intriguing events. The main character, P.K., was a strong little English boy that grew into a powerful and inspiring young man. From this movie I learned so much about South Africa. For example, the Afrikaners were discriminating against the English. One young man, Botha, was so against the English he tried to kill P.K by hanging him. Another example of this was when their professor at the boarding school was preaching about how bad the English were, then again Botha spit on P.K. during the professor’s speech.
This movie was both difficult and enjoyable to watch. One part that made me upset was when Botha tried to hang P.K. I never knew how much hate a person could really show. Another part that was hard was when the soldier killed P.K’s friend Piet because Piet would not tell the solider what the words were that they were singing. I thought that these parts showed the true reality of what would happen to people. One part that I really enjoyed was the concert they put on. When one of the soldiers told P.K bad things to tell to the blacks, P.K told them good things. I thought that part was hilarious. This movie was fantastic but it wasn’t one of my favorites. My favorite was “Hotel Rwanda” because I thought it had more action and taught me more about the country and it told a real story. These two movies were very similar because it had to do with one person changing their country but I thought that “Hotel Rwanda” was better. However, the “Power of One” was truly inspiring.

Happy New Year!
To end this amazing year, I am having a party at my house for me and my friends. We plan to play games, eat really good food, take pictures and watch the amazing ball drop in New York. At my parties we all talk about the great times and the bad times we went through in the year. I think the best things that happened to me in 2009 was my eighth grade graduation, attending the Next Stage camp for singers and my dance classes. These few things were the most memorable for 2009. However, some bad things did happen this year too. I lost my grandpa, aunt and uncle this year to cancer. On the other hand, through these tragedies that happened, I learned how important family really is.
This upcoming year is going to be really marvelous! I am looking forward to so many events. One thing I am looking forward to is the summer. I am looking forward to summer because I got asked to try out for a concert at the Heritage Park. I am also looking forward to my dance recital. This year in dance I have improved so greatly and I cannot wait to show my family and friends how much I have accomplished. The biggest thing I am looking forward to is just going through my teenage years and maturing into a loving and caring person. With a new year comes resolutions as well. My one and only resolution is to make my grandpa proud of what I am going to accomplish is 2010.
